“Study the past if you would define the future.” Credited to Confucius, this adage illuminates the idea that a healthy respect for and understanding of history informs the brightest of futures.
On Sunday, Dec. 7, the Episcopal Day School Candlelight Tour of Homes — a longstanding Sandhills tradition with a rich history in the community — will showcase five area homes that engage with history in diverse and meaningful ways. From period architectural gems that have been faithfully maintained or thoughtfully restored to modern construction influenced heavily by the traditions and materials of the past, history is a guest everywhere at this year’s Candlelight Tour of Homes.
The newest home on the tour was designed and built by a young, dynamic family with an appreciation for historic design and materials. EDS parents Will and Ashlee Huntley, of Huntley Design Build, created a home that displays an intentional architectural mix to resemble a Lowcountry cottage that has been added onto over intervening years.
